What is “instant orthodontics”?
Since veneers correct the appearance of misaligned teeth in just two office visits – without orthodontic treatment – veneers are sometimes referred to as "instant orthodontics." Instead of gradually moving the teeth into alignment as Invisalign® does, veneers conceal the misalignment. Therefore, for patients whose orthodontic problems do not interfere with their oral health or functioning, instant orthodontics with porcelain veneers may be an effective, time-saving option.
Can porcelain veneers be used in smile makeovers?
Yes! Since smile makeovers are intended to dramatically transform the smile, veneers are often an ideal option. Am I a candidate for instant orthodontics?
Whether you are a candidate for instant orthodontics depends on your overall dental health and treatment goals. Your teeth and gums must be healthy enough to support the veneers. (If you are missing teeth or have significant dental problems, additional or alternative treatment may be necessary.) You must also have a thorough understanding of the dental veneers placement process and realistic expectations of the outcome. We also recommend that instant orthodontics patients be 18 years of age or older.
Are porcelain veneers permanent?
Porcelain veneers are permanent in that they are not removable; they are bonded to the teeth with durable dental cement to assure years of use. However, patients should understand that veneers need to be cared for properly to prolong their lifespan. Even with proper maintenance, veneers typically need to be replaced after several years.
Is the placement process for porcelain veneers painful?
The Practice of Dr. Peter Rubinstein is equipped with the latest in pain management technology, including sedation dentistry, which allows us to provide virtually pain-free placement of porcelain veneers. Once Dr. Rubinstein administers the anesthetic, all a patient usually feels is slight pressure as the tooth structure is reduced, the temporary caps are placed or removed, or the permanent veneers are bonded. Over-the-counter pain relievers are usually adequate for minimizing post-placement discomfort.
