What are the benefits of tooth whitening?

Is the tooth bleaching process painful?

Patients with naturally sensitive teeth or gums should consider in-office whitening systems, since, as an extra precaution, these systems protect the gums with a rubber mouthguard.
How long does the whitening effect last?
Although tooth whitening produces dramatic results, the whitening effect can fade over time, especially if a patient does not practice proper oral hygiene and abstain from substances that can stain the teeth (e.g., coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco). Touch-ups with over-the-counter or take-home professional whitening systems can usually restore whiteness to the teeth.
